We would like to give a huge heart felt “Thank you!” to Lubbock Professional Police Association for their generous donation to our organization. It is with their assistance we were able to buy a 3rd EKG machine for our cardiac screenings. These machines from Cardiac Insight are specifically designed for young athletic hearts and will better assist us in detecting life threatening abnormalities! THANK YOU LPPA!!

What a difference a year makes!! Last night some of our board members drove out to Slaton to watch Xavier play football again. For those not familiar with his story, on October 23, 2015 Xavier collapsed in cardiac arrest during football game. He was resuscitated and has had a long journey to recovery. He is the driving reason we formed our organization. We are determined to prevent sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in athletes such as Xavier. While Xavier’s return did not bring a win for his team (Slaton lost to Floydada) we are so thankful that Xavier was able to make a full recovery and get back to the sport he loves. Here are some photos from last night.

Sudden cardiac death affects thousands of teens yearly. It is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in teens. Most victims of sudden cardiac death have no warning signs of cardiac problems until their initial cardiac arrest and 92% of those arrests are fatal.
Operation Screen Your Athlete is a group of health care professionals that have come together to hold free screenings to help prevent sudden cardiac death in athletes. We offer free screenings to school age athletes 14-18 years of age. Cardiologists, nurses, EMTs, and echocardiogram technicians are available to perform theses exams. Testing consists of a medical questionnaire, EKG, and limited echocardiogram if needed. Any athlete found to have abnormal results are referred to a cardiologist for further evaluation and treatment.
